Eddie Hearn says the long-awaited showdown between British rivals Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua must take place in the UK under the terms of the fight deal signed three months ago.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh reportedly wants to stage the fight –- which is expected to take place in October or November –- at a time that would attract the largest global audience.

Anthony Joshua

But were the fight to take place at Wembley Stadium, any plans to stage the bout with a 2:00 am (0200 GMT) start would require an exemption to the London venue’s curfew restrictions.

There is now talk the fight could take place at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

But Hearn, the promoter of Joshua, insists his man has signed up for a UK fight only and the contract would have to be renegotiated to move elsewhere.

Anthony Joshua

“There’s a reason we put contracts together,” Hearn said after Joshua’s second-round stoppage of Kristian Prenga in Jeddah on Saturday kept him on course for a Fury showdown, little more than 24 hours after fellow former world heavyweight champion had stopped Mariusz Wach in Thailand.

He added: “We insisted that this fight was in the UK. I know that AJ will sometimes want to be a little bit of a peacekeeper, but the reality is he said to me, ‘I want the fight in the UK. This is a British fight’. I can’t agree more.

“Turki Alalshikh is our partner and has been an unbelievable supporter of Anthony Joshua…We would have conversations, but the only way the fight doesn’t take place in England is if Anthony Joshua and myself agree to it because we have a legally binding contract that took a long, long time to negotiate

“Let’s be honest this is a fight for the British public.”

Joshua insisted Wembley, a 90,000 capacity stadium in north London best known as the headquarters of English football, was the only choice for his fight with Fury.

“When these conversations started, there was no other venue or location that was ever mentioned,” he said. “It was simple. This is the road map. You fight, come back, fight, and then providing you’re victorious, you’ll be fighting Tyson Fury in the UK, basically Wembley.

“I wouldn’t expect it to be at Tottenham (Hotspur Stadium) or the Principality Stadium (Cardiff) respectfully. It’s just got that history when you think of Wembley.”

The victory in Jeddah keeps Joshua on course for a long-awaited heavyweight showdown with British rival Tyson Fury later this year.

British Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua fought back from an early scare to stop Albanian Kristian Prenga in the second round on Saturday night before delivering an emotional tribute to his late friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

The victory in Jeddah keeps Joshua on course for a long-awaited heavyweight showdown with British rival Tyson Fury later this year.

According to Sky News, Joshua was knocked down twice inside the opening 20 seconds after being caught by a vicious uppercut from the Albanian knockout specialist, raising fears of a major upset.

However, the former world champion responded emphatically, flattening Prenga with a barrage of right hands in the second round to secure his 30th career victory.

The fight marked Joshua’s first appearance since he survived a car crash in December that claimed the lives of Ghami and Ayodele.

Speaking after the bout, an emotional Joshua dedicated the win to his late friends.

Anthony Joshua

“It’s more than punch power. That was spirit, that was Latz, that was Sina, that was the families. It hurts to even talk about it. It has been tough. It’s my brothers. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Fury had also recorded a stoppage victory on Friday, defeating Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in a non-televised contest in Thailand. Although Fury later said he would not travel to Saudi Arabia for a face-off with Joshua, both fighters remain on course for a potential November clash.

Prenga entered the fight with all 20 of his previous victories coming by knockout and had won 16 consecutive bouts since suffering his only career defeat in February 2017.

With both Joshua and Fury emerging victorious over the weekend and contracts reportedly already signed, their long-awaited showdown now appears set for the autumn.

The bout could reportedly take place at Wembley Stadium at 2 a.m. UK time to accommodate a global audience, although Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has indicated that the United States remains the preferred venue for fight organiser Turki Alalshikh.

Joshua also fired a warning to Fury after the fight.

“I am going to rip his heart out. I am the meanest and most vicious champion there has ever been!

“All jokes aside, I respect everything he has done and achieved but we are here now. I hope the fans will be in for a lovely treat.”

The former heavyweight champion also praised Prenga for his performance.

“He’s a strong guy and I think Eddie [Hearn] wants to sign him now!

“He is going to do well and has a bright future. Maybe with a bit more experience, he will be up there with the rest of us.

“He is strong and durable and gave me a good test but this is what champions do, we rise. We get knocked down and stand up. That’s life.”

British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua got his career back on track on Saturday night, recovering from two early knockdowns to stop previously unbeaten Albanian Kristian Prenga in the second round in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and setting the stage for a long-awaited showdown with Tyson Fury later this year, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Tyson Fury

Joshua’s comeback got off to a disastrous start when Prenga, who had entered the bout with a perfect record of 20 knockout wins from 20 fights, sent him crashing to the canvas within the opening 20 seconds with a thunderous uppercut.

The former two-time world heavyweight champion was floored a second time before the round was out, briefly raising the prospect of one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing.

The 36-year-old, however, showed the heart that has defined much of his career, using his jab to steady himself before unloading a barrage of heavy right hands in the second round that trapped Prenga against the ropes and forced the referee to step in, handing the Albanian the first defeat of his professional career and improving Joshua’s own record to 30 wins from 34 fights, with 27 by knockout.

Speaking about the prospect of finally facing Fury, Joshua struck a defiant tone while acknowledging his rival’s achievements.

Anthony Joshua

“I respect everything he has done and everything that he has achieved, but as a fighting person and as someone who has been calling for this fight for a long time, we are here now. Shout out to His Excellency, shout out to Eddie Hearn for making these opportunities possible, and I hope the fans will be in for a lovely treat,” he said.

“You know what I have learned, I cannot be stopped, I am not going to be stopped, I am not going to be denied.”

The victory marked Joshua’s first appearance since the car crash in Nigeria in December that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and members of his team, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

A visibly emotional Joshua, who wore camouflage gear bearing the names of his late friends on his chest, dedicated the win to their memory.

“It is more than punch power. That was spirit, that was Latz, that was Sina, that was the families. It hurts to even talk about it. It has been tough. They are my brothers, but I do not want to talk about it,” he said in the ring afterwards.

“It is what champions do. We rise, we get knocked down, and we stand up, and we keep going. That is life’s motto.”

Joshua’s win came a day after Fury secured a seventh-round technical knockout over forty-six-year-old Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in an untelevised bout in Thailand, roughly 4,000 miles away, with both former world champions now having come through their respective warm-up assignments.

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that contracts for the domestic showdown had already been signed, although a venue was yet to be finalised, with Wembley Stadium among the options being considered alongside the possibility of hosting the fight in the United States.

“We have signed a contract, everything is done. But to be honest with you, tonight is all about the strength that he showed to even be here tonight, and the strength that he had to show in that fight. When you go down a couple of times in the first round, and you are looking like your career might be over, he had to go to the depths one more time to get up and fight on,” Hearn said.

Mike Tyson has said he will always back one man to emerge victorious in an all-British heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Tyson Fury

The former two-time world champions completed their respective warm-up fights this weekend, albeit with ‘AJ’ having to survive two knockdowns against Kristian Prenga.

Remarkably, the 36-year-old was floored by a right uppercut within the first 20 seconds of their contest, before hitting the canvas once more in the opening round.

Anthony Joshua

These knockdowns were made even more dramatic by the fact that, prior to Saturday evening, Prenga was given virtually no hope of an upset in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Joshua, meanwhile, was heavily favoured to win via an early stoppage, which ultimately materialised after he dropped his opponent in round two.

Conversely, Fury appeared to encounter no real drama against the 46-year-old Mariusz Wach, who afforded him seven rounds of low-risk action in Thailand.

Anthony Joshua

As a result of their victories, it now seems as though the wheels are in motion for Fury and Joshua to collide later this year, with an official announcement expected to emerge before long.

But even without having reviewed their latest performances, Tyson has told Ring Magazine that he will always favour ‘The Gypsy King’.

“If Tyson comes in right and avoids those punches, it’s going to be interesting. Joshua’s a fast puncher.

“I love Tyson Fury. [The fact he is named ‘Tyson’ is] why I can never go against him.”

Prior to his stoppage victory over Wach on Friday, Fury ended 16 months of inactivity by unanimously outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov in April.

Anthony Joshua recovers from two first-round knockdowns, to knock out Kristian Prenga in the second round of his return fight.

Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua made a successful return to the ring, with a dominant second-round knockout of Kristian Prenga at the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, strengthening his case for a blockbuster showdown with Tyson Fury later this year.

The former two-time heavyweight world champion overcame an early scare following his knockdown in the first round before taking control of the contest, eventually forcing the referee to stop the fight 1 minute, 52 seconds into the second round. The victory came after just 4 minutes and 52 seconds of action.

Anthony Joshua VS Kristian Prenga

Joshua entered the contest looking to bounce back from a lengthy spell away from the ring, while Prenga arrived unbeaten in his previous 16 fights and boasting a perfect knockout record during that run. Despite the Albanian’s aggressive start, Joshua quickly found his rhythm, landing a series of heavy combinations that ended the contest.

The victory keeps Joshua on course for a long-discussed all-British clash with Tyson Fury, with promoters expected to intensify talks following his convincing comeback performance.

Anthony Joshua has won his comeback bout against Kristian Prenga with a second-round knockout.

The 36-year-old was making his return to the ring ahead of a dream match-up against former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury this year.

While no date or venue has been set, speculation is rife that the two British boxers will meet at Wembley Stadium in November.

Held in Jeddah on Saturday night, Prenga was actually on top during the opening round – sending Joshua to the mat with an uppercut within the first 20 seconds.

Joshua was then knocked down again before the first round ended, turning it around after catching the Albanian with a jab before hitting him with hooks against the ropes.

Anthony Joshua VS Kristian Prenga

It’s also Joshua’s first fight since he was in a car accident in Nigeria last December, where his two friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele were killed.

The two were members of the boxer’s team and long-term friends.

Speaking in the ring after his win, Joshua said: “That was more than punch power. It was spirit, that was Latz, that was Sina… It’s been tough.

Anthony Joshua

“It hurts me talking about it, man.”

On his next opponent, Joshua smiled as he delivered an homage to Mike Tyson: “I am going to rip his heart out. I am the meanest and most vicious champion there has ever been!

“All jokes aside, there are two sides to this thing… I respect everything (Fury) has done and achieved, but as someone who has been calling for this fight for some time, it is here now.

“I hope the fans will be in for a lovely treat.”

‘I wondered if AJ had come back too soon’

“We have signed the contracts. Everything is done.

“To be honest with you, tonight is all about the strength AJ has showed to even be here tonight – and the strength in that fight.

Anthony joshua VS Kristian Prenga

“No one can imagine what he has been through and during that first fight I was thinking, ‘we have come back too soon’.

“He needed boxing to help him come through this. It allowed him to focus his mind while he was going through so much grief and pain.

“He is a strong man and likes to deal with his problems on his own – I am not saying that is the right way but it is his way.

“When your career could be over, you have to go the depths one more time, like he has always done.”

Anthony Joshua sets up Tyson Fury super-fight despite being knocked down twice in first round

Joshua vs Prenga LIVE!

Anthony Joshua VS Kriatian Prenga

Anthony Joshua returns against Kristian Prenga tonight as he looks to set up the biggest fight in British boxing history against Tyson Fury. It remains to be seen if Fury will appear at ringside in Jeddah, having vowed to fly in from Thailand in something of a U-turn following his dominant seven-round win over veteran heavyweight Mariusz Wach in Thailand on Friday.

Now the onus is firmly on Joshua to match that performance with an emphatic statement of his own as he fights for the first time since suffering minor injuries as a passenger in a serious car crash in Nigeria in December that claimed the lives of two close friends and team members in Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele. That tragic accident came just 10 days after Joshua had knocked out Jake Paul in Miami.

He is an overwhelming favourite to stop little-known Albanian challenger Prenga, though may need to be careful with an opponent who has a reputation as a knockout artist. On the undercard, Hamzah Sheeraz successfully defended his WBO super-middleweight title against Simon Zachenhuber after Josh Kelly retained the IBF super-welterweight belt in a brutal battle with Caoimhin Agyarko. Anthony Joshua sends message to Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua

It appears that Tyson Fury really has stayed away tonight.

Joshua excitedly asks during his post-fight interview with DAZN in the ring if Fury is here, but he obviously isn’t going to make any sort of dramatic late entrance.

Asked if he has a message for Fury, Joshua recites the famous Mike Tyson ‘I’m the best ever’ speech that followed his 38-second stoppage win over Lou Savarese in Glasgow in 2000.

July 24,  Anthony Joshua has been through many battles inside the  boxing ring, but none compares to what he has endured outside it over the past eight months.

The former unified heavyweight champion returns to action on Saturday against Albania’s Kristian Prenga carrying more than just expectations.

Boxing

He is fighting for the first time since the devastating car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and trusted team members.

Despite the emotional backdrop, Joshua looked calm, confident, and unusually relaxed during fight week in Jeddah.

While fans and promoters are already dreaming about Tyson Fury, the British star insists his full attention is on the dangerous opponent standing in front of him.

Here are the seven biggest storylines heading into one of Joshua’s most important fights.

1. This Is Joshua’s Most Emotional Comeback Yet

Anthony Joshua

Saturday’s bout marks Joshua’s first appearance since the tragic accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Boxing

The loss deeply affected the former world champion, making this much more than another fight. It represents resilience, healing, and the beginning of a new chapter in his career.

2. Joshua Looked More Relaxed Than Fans Have Seen In Years

Fight-week Anthony Joshua is usually serious and reserved. This week was different.

He smiled throughout the press conference, joked with the host about wearing a blazer in Jeddah’s scorching heat, thanked traveling supporters, and even invited Albanian fans to bring their energy on fight night.

Geographic Reference

It was a noticeably lighter version of the two-time heavyweight champion.

3. He Refused To Look Beyond Kristian Prenga

With Tyson Fury’s name dominating headlines, Joshua repeatedly shut down questions about a future showdown.

Instead, he stressed that Prenga has his full respect and attention.
His message was simple: overlook no opponent.

It’s a mindset born from experience after years of facing the world’s best heavyweights.

4. Kristian Prenga Believes He Can Shock The Boxing World

Anthony Joshua VS Kristian Prenga

Prenga isn’t travelling to Saudi Arabia just to make up the numbers.

The Albanian knockout specialist has won 20 fights by stoppage and boldly predicted he will knock Joshua out. His manager even described the opportunity as a real-life Rocky story.

Joshua wasn’t convinced, replying with a smile that he doesn’t believe Prenga can stop him before adding that “only God knows.”

6. He Reminded Everyone Of The Level He’s Already Reached

Tyson Fury

Joshua used the press conference to reflect on the elite competition he has already faced.

From world champions to top contenders, he has fought the strongest, fastest, and fittest heavyweights of his generation.

Boxing

He’s been knocked down. He’s been knocked out.
Yet he insists every setback has made him stronger heading into another defining moment.

7. Joshua Still Has His Eyes On Boxing Greatness

Perhaps Joshua’s most memorable quote came when describing his ambitions.

“The goal is to conquer the universe,” he said with a smile, before quickly bringing himself back to reality.

For Joshua, conquering Earth starts with beating Kristian Prenga. Only then can thoughts of Tyson Fury and another shot at heavyweight supremacy become reality.

Anthony Joshua enters Saturday’s fight carrying renewed confidence, painful memories, and enormous expectations.

His relaxed demeanour suggests a fighter at peace with himself, but his focus remains razor-sharp.

Kristian Prenga may not be the biggest name on Joshua’s résumé, yet he represents the final obstacle before one of  boxing’s most anticipated fights.

If Joshua delivers the performance many expect, the heavyweight division could finally be on course for the blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury that fans have waited years to see.

Boxing

But first, all eyes will be on Jeddah on Saturday, July 26, as Joshua steps back into the ring against Kristian Prenga in what promises to be the most emotional fight of his career.

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua returns to the ring to take on Kristian Prenga on Saturday, July 25, 2026, live from the Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia on DAZN PPV.

Many thought Joshua’s high-profile fight nights were behind him, after successive setbacks against Oleksandr Usyk and a tough knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois, but the former two-time world heavyweight champion, who has been training with Usyk recently, is aiming to make a big impression in Jeddah.

Joshua may be the strong favourite heading into Saturday’s bout, but he knows all too well that he cannot afford to dismiss an opponent too lightly. The shocking and painful loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. will still haunt the British boxer and Prenga, who has won his last three bouts with opening round knockouts, definitely packs a punch.

Let GOAL give you all the vital information you need ahead of the Joshua vs Prenga heavyweight clash in Saudi Arabia, including details of the fight card and how you can watch and stream all the live action.
