Simone Biles found time to respond to Instagram users with very few followers this week, after the users commented mocking the gymnast for posting vacation photos days after revealing an apparent near-death experience.

The users commented on one of Biles’ recent posts showing photos of the gymnast on vacation, just two weeks after Biles revealed she had a near-death experience in a post where she wrote she “almost died.” Biles has not revealed specifics about the incident.

“Almost died but look at these traveling selfies,” one user, with just over 2,200 followers, wrote on Tuesday.

Biles responded to the comment on Thursday.

“Ugh, these comments make me sad. A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here. I hope you understand that life-changing experiences can shift your perspective and that you’re able to extend a little more grace to other moving forward,” Biles wrote.

Another user, with fewer than 200 followers, wrote, “almost died but on vacation drinking?”

Biles responded to that comment too, writing, “I don’t owe you anything, but have you heard of non-alcoholic drinks?”

Another user, also with fewer than 200 followers, wrote, “You look good for someone who almost died.”

Biles responded to that comment as well, writing, “Two weeks bedrest.”

On her Instagram story on June 6, Biles shared vague details about the near-death experience, without recounting any specifics, with the background just being a photo of her hand.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card this week,” Biles wrote.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices. I’ve been in bed resting this week. I’ll explain sooner or later, but [shoutout] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.”

Biles has declined to reveal specifics about what happened.

“Not ready to talk about it just yet,” she wrote in a reply to a comment earlier this week.

Biles is married to Jonathan Owens, who is a safety for the Indianapolis Colts. The couple has been married since 2023, though Owens’ NFL career has occasionally forced them to spend time apart. Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018, he has played for five different teams.

The two met while Owens was with the Houston Texans in 2019. Biles lives in Texas, where the couple has built a massive home together. Since his time in Houston, Owens has also played for the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and now the Colt.

Back in November, Biles revealed that she had recently undergone three plastic surgeries.

“I’ve had three plastic surgeries and two of them you would never be able to tell,” she said in a TikTok video that month.

After revealing a health scare in June, Simone Biles has shared another development with her fans. The seven-time Olympic medalist posted an Instagram Story on Thursday featuring a photo of Biles in surgical attire, accompanied by her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote affectionately. The photo is from July 22, indicating that Biles had already undergone the procedure at the time of posting. The 29-year-old donned a hospital gown, hair net in the photo.

Simone Biles June Health Scare

The post is the first update in over a month from Biles, who shared news of a purported near-death experience on June 15.

“Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” Biles wrote last month, adding that she typically preserves her privacy in such circumstances, but felt compelled to share her recent experience.

She called it “one of, if not the scariest experience of her life.”

In Biles’ photo, her wrist showed multiple hospital bands, including a red band, along with what appeared to be a medical dressing likely covering an IV site. However, the significance of the bands was not disclosed.

According to Biles, she was put on bed rest immediately following the incident.

Though Biles did not disclose the cause of her hospital visit or the nature of her diagnosis and recovery, she shared that she plans to explain the situation to the public “sooner or later.”

In the weeks following the first incident, Biles has remained quiet but has made public appearances – most recently at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York City – and traveled abroad, and just returned from the Dominican Republic.

What’s Next For Simone Biles

Simone Biles

While Biles has been removed from gymnastics for the two years following the Paris Olympic Games, her health update comes in the wake of groundbreaking comeback announcements in the sport.

Biles’ teammate, 2020 Olympic all-around Champion Suni Lee, announced her comeback in mid-July. With her decision, Lee joins 2024 Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera on the comeback trail.

Former elite prodigy and NCAA sensation Katelyn Ohashi just made her return to the American and U.S. Classic competitions after 13 years away. At 29 years old and having undergone breast augmentation surgery in 2025, many suspect that Simone Biles is done with competitive gymnastics.

However, Biles says she remains undecided on a run at her fourth-straight Olympic team. For now, fans hold their breath and wish her well.

Less than two months after a medical emergency left Simone Biles fearing she might not survive, the most decorated gymnast in history has returned to a medical facility for an undisclosed procedure.

Biles shared a black-and-white photograph Thursday showing her smiling in a hospital gown and surgical cap beside her husband, Jonathan Owens. The timing added a lighthearted twist to an otherwise concerning update, as the procedure took place on the Indianapolis Colts safety’s 31st birthday.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote on Instagram.

The 29-year-old didn’t reveal what the procedure involved or whether it was directly related to the serious health scare she experienced at the beginning of June.

Her cheerful tone suggested she was recovering well, however, as she joked that she woke up singing BossMan Dlow’s “Talk My S**t.”

The image was her most significant public health update since June 6, when she posted photographs of hospital wristbands and flowers while describing an experience that had profoundly changed her perspective.

One of the scariest moments of her life

Biles acknowledged at the time that discussing personal medical issues didn’t come naturally to her.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” she wrote. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”

Owens, who joined the Colts during the offseason, was away from home when the emergency occurred. Biles said she spent the following days resting in bed and thanked the friends and relatives who called, visited or sent flowers.

“I’ll explain sooner or later,” she wrote, although she has continued to protect the details of her diagnosis and treatment.

That decision prompted questions when Biles later shared vacation footage from Belize and the Dominican Republic. One follower asked why she hadn’t provided the promised explanation, to which she replied: “Not ready to talk about it just yet.”

Simone Biles pushes back against doubts over recovery

Other social media users questioned how someone who had nearly died could travel so soon afterward, prompting Biles to defend both the seriousness of the emergency and her right to recover privately.

“A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently,” she wrote. “This trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here.

“I hope you understand that life-changing experiences can shift your perspective and that you’re able to extend a little more grace to others moving forward.”

Biles also clarified that a drink visible in one vacation video was nonalcoholic.

She has gradually returned to public life since the scare, recently appearing with Owens at the 2026 ESPYS in New York. Thursday’s hospital photo showed the couple smiling together and offered reassurance that the procedure had been completed.

It didn’t answer the questions surrounding her health. Biles has made clear that she will share those details only when she feels ready, leaving her latest update as a carefully controlled glimpse into a recovery she is still navigating.

Simone Biles is enjoying a hot summer, with an emphasis on the hot.

On her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, July 22, the legendary gymnast reposted an image of her shirtless spouse, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens — and added three sweaty hot face emojis.

Owens had shared the post for his 31st birthday, which Biles celebrated with the words “happy birthday 🤍🤞🏾” in her repost.

The 11-time Olympic medalist, 29, followed the steamy photo with additional pics of a recent getaway in the Dominican Republic, which involved downtime on the beach as well as a mat pilates class.

In May, the couple celebrated their third wedding anniversary, looking back at their destination wedding in Mexico in May 2023, at the Umi Terrace of the Nobu Los Cabos in Cabo San Lucas. Joined by 144 guests, the couple exchanged handwritten vows beneath a floral arch on the beach.

And last month, the most decorated gymnast of all time showed off a few moments from a vacation with Owens to Belize as they continued to bask in the sun.

Biles uploaded vlog-styled videos and PDA-filled photos with her husband. On Friday, June 19, she posted an Instagram carousel that showed glimpses into the trip.

“ME & U 🤎,” she captioned the post.

The photos in the roundup included Biles sitting on Owens’ lap during date night, the gymnast on the NFL star’s shoulders in the pool, the couple smiling for a selfie, and Owens grabbing Biles’ behind during a bathing suit-clad romp on the island.

Weeks later, the couple also pulled up to Madison Square Garden for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.

On her Instagram Stories, Biles wore a stunning red wine and metallic dress, designed by DO LONG, and accessorized with Maison Spoiled High Jewelry, while Owens — who wore a matching suit jacket, looked on with admiration.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles captioned the picture, which showed her husband Jonathan Owens by her side in what appeared to be a medical office. Owens, who is a safety for the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, turned 31 on July 22.
Biles did not share any further details about her procedure. The post comes after she opened up about a medical emergency last month.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on June 6. “This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.”

Biles did not disclose what the medical emergency was, noting that she’ll “explain sooner or later.”
“I’m in bed resting this week,” she added. It’s unclear if Biles’ recent procedure was connected to her June health scare.

Biles is the most decorated gymnast in history with 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals. During an April interview with CNN Sports, Biles said there was a “50-50 chance” of her competing at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

“We’re going to have to make these decisions pretty quickly,” she said at the time, noting that she was taking a break from training. “Mental health plays a big role in it because, physically, my coaches will get me in shape. I can get myself in shape. We believe in that ability. We’re really thankful that I’m still healthy.”

Simone Biles recently underwent an undisclosed procedure weeks after revealing she nearly died.

Last month, the Olympic gold medal gymnast, 29, revealed a health issue, calling it the “scariest experience of my life.” Sharing a photo on her Instagram Story of multiple hospital bracelets on her wrist, she wrote, “I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later.”

While Biles still has yet to share what landed her in the hospital, she has since publicly alluded to the incident, telling one Instagram fan in late June that she was “not ready to talk about it just yet.”

In a new health update shared Thursday on her Instagram Story, the athlete posted a black-and-white selfie from a hospital room.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” she wrote next to a string of white hearts and a face holding back tears emoji. “I woke up singing bosman dlow, ‘Talk My S***.”

Biles did not share any details about the procedure, nor whether it was connected to her recent health scare.

The Independent has contacted Biles’s representative for comment.

Weeks after her medical emergency, Biles shared photos from her vacation in Belize.

“Relaxing in paradise,” she captioned a series of poolside snaps. She faced criticism for the post, with one person sarcastically commenting, “Almost died but look at these traveling selfies…,” alongside three laughing emojis.

“Ugh these comments make me sad,” Biles directly replied to the message, “A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal & appreciate being here.

“I hope you understand that life changing experiences can shift your perspective,” she said, adding that she hoped it allowed the commenter “to extend a little more grace to others moving forward.”

Biles has won a total of seven Olympic gold medals throughout her career. She earned her first four during her Olympic debut at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2020, she competed in some events at the Tokyo Games before withdrawing from the final five events to focus on her mental health. She later made her triumphant return at the 2024 Paris Games, winning three more gold medals. She has not yet announced her plans for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Simone Biles is recovering from another medical procedure just weeks after revealing she suffered what she described as a life-threatening health emergency.

The Olympic gymnastics star shared a photo on Instagram July 23 showing herself in medical scrubs alongside husband Jonathan Owens, revealing that the Indianapolis Colts safety spent part of his 31st birthday taking her to an appointment.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote, adding several heart emojis.

Biles, 29, did not disclose what procedure she underwent and has yet to explain the health scare she revealed last month.

The seven-time Olympic gold medalist shocked fans in June when she shared a photo from a hospital bed and said she had experienced one of the scariest moments of her life.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote on Instagram Stories at the time. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

She said the situation was made even more difficult because Owens was away at training camp with the Colts. Biles later told followers she had been resting in bed while recovering and promised she would eventually share more about what happened.

Biles says she’s still not ready to discuss medical emergency

A week later, after posting a video from a trip to Belize, Biles responded to a fan who asked about her “near death experience.

“Not ready to talk about it just yet ❤️‍🩹,” she replied.

Biles has since been out and about, traveling, attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding and even served as one of the presenters at the annual ESPYs in New York City on Wednesday, July 15. But she continues to draw criticism from social media users.

After one commenter wrote, “Almost died but look at these traveling selfies…,” Biles pushed back.

“Ugh these comments made me sad,” she wrote. “A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here.”

She added that the experience had changed her perspective, and she urged critics to show “a little more grace.”

Biles said she was spending the week recovering in bed and told followers she would explain the medical emergency “sooner or later.” She also thanked those who had checked on her, later sharing a photo cuddled up with her two dogs and writing, “i’ll be here.

The Olympic gold medalist did not share if the procedure was related to her recent health struggles after posting about “almost dying” in June.

Simone Biles has revealed she recently underwent a “procedure.”

The 29-year-old Olympic gold medalist shared a picture to her Instagram story Thursday, July 23, taken from a hospital room.

Biles, who wore a patient gown and cap, smiled in the photo while taking a selfie next to husband Jonathan Owens, who turned 31 on July 22.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” she wrote above the snap and included multiple teary-eyed emoji and white hearts.

She added that she awoke from the procedure singing a song by rapper BossMan Dlow.

Her post did not provide more details about her hospital visit, including if it was related to her health scare last month.

On June 6, Biles informed fans via her Instagram story that she was in the hospital.

She uploaded a picture that showed her wearing hospital bands on her wrist and wrote, “I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age.”

Biles continued, “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

She did not clarify what happened and has not opened up about the health scare since then.

However, she did share at the time that she had to go through the ordeal alone as her NFL star husband, who plays for the Indianapolis Colts, was away at practice.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan (Owens) was in Indy for practices,” Biles wrote.

She said following the situation she had been resting in bed and would explain more “sooner or later.”

Biles ended her post by thanking her friends and family who checked in on her during the scary time. She later uploaded a picture of her lying in bed with her dogs and an image of her heart rate.

Biles, who has not confirmed her plans for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, recently took the stage at the ESPY Awards on July 15. She presented the award for best team and walked the red carpet beforehand with Owens.

Simone Biles is sharing a health update with her fans.

On Thursday, July 23, the Olympic gymnast uploaded a photo of herself wearing scrubs in what appears to be a medical office alongside her husband, Jonathan Owens, who accompanied Biles, 29, to her “procedure” on his 31st birthday on Wednesday, July 22.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure 🥹🥹🥹🤍🤍🤍,” Biles, 29, wrote in an Instagram Story over a black-and-white picture of herself smiling next to her NFL husband, whom she wed in April 2023. “I woke up singing bossman dlow ‘talk my s–t’  🤣🤣🤣🤣,” she added.

Biles didn’t share any other information regarding her procedure. Details on what she was having done and why remain unclear.

On June 6, the Olympic gold medalist shared a picture of her arm wrapped in patient wristbands from the hospital while explaining that she has been “in bed resting this week” after experiencing one of the worst health scares of her life.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories at the time. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life. Especially since Jonathan [Owens] was in Indy for practices,” she continued.

Owens signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts in March 2026. At the time, Biles said she was “excited to call Indy home” during the upcoming football season.

“I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers,” Biles continued on her Instagram Stories. “Loooovveeee y’all.”

The ESPY Awards, the most prestigious participation trophy in the world, were last night, bringing out superstar athletes across many disciplines and countries, but most especially Olympic standouts, gold medalists Simone Biles, Alysa Liu, and Eileen Gu.

Simone Biles, Alysa Liu, and Eileen Gu.

I’m going to start with Eileen Gu, because she wore Guo Pei, who designed Rihanna’s iconic golden omelet Met Gala cloak, and Guo Pei is one of those designers I wish we saw more of in the west. Her designs are sumptuous and theatrical, and Eileen Gu opted for a shimmery, floral gown with gold tones.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens

This actually feels constrained for Guo Pei, but the fabric is doing a lot. I love a gold medalist in gold. Is it theme dressing if you’re an Olympic gold medalist to wear gold? I’ll never begrudge it, if so. Olympians make such huge sacrifices to achieve everything they do, I feel like they should get a Purge-style crime spree post-Olympics just to make up for all the restraint and sacrifice it takes to get to the podium. Just let them do crimes for twenty-four hours and blow off steam.

Also in gold was Simone Biles, accompanied by her husband, football player Jonathan Owens.

Biles got a lot of smoke last year for getting breast implants, but again, Olympians, sacrifices, Purge-style free pass. Also, let’s not pretend like we’re not aware of what gymnastics can do to a girl’s body, in re: delayed puberty etc. I’m not being flippant, I think we should seriously consider there might be a lot of layers to Biles wanting such an enhancement, and she is not obligated to explain all of it to us. We should just give her the Olympic Purge Pass and let it go.
