After revealing a health scare in June, Simone Biles has shared another development with her fans. The seven-time Olympic medalist posted an Instagram Story on Thursday featuring a photo of Biles in surgical attire, accompanied by her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote affectionately. The photo is from July 22, indicating that Biles had already undergone the procedure at the time of posting. The 29-year-old donned a hospital gown, hair net in the photo.

Simone Biles June Health Scare

Simone Biles And Jonathan Owens

The post is the first update in over a month from Biles, who shared news of a purported near-death experience on June 15.

“Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” Biles wrote last month, adding that she typically preserves her privacy in such circumstances, but felt compelled to share her recent experience.

She called it “one of, if not the scariest experience of her life.”

In Biles’ photo, her wrist showed multiple hospital bands, including a red band, along with what appeared to be a medical dressing likely covering an IV site. However, the significance of the bands was not disclosed.

According to Biles, she was put on bed rest immediately following the incident.

Though Biles did not disclose the cause of her hospital visit or the nature of her diagnosis and recovery, she shared that she plans to explain the situation to the public “sooner or later.”

In the weeks following the first incident, Biles has remained quiet but has made public appearances – most recently at the 2026 ESPY Awards in New York City – and traveled abroad, and just returned from the Dominican Republic.

What’s Next For Simone Biles

Simone Biles

While Biles has been removed from gymnastics for the two years following the Paris Olympic Games, her health update comes in the wake of groundbreaking comeback announcements in the sport.

Biles’ teammate, 2020 Olympic all-around Champion Suni Lee, announced her comeback in mid-July. With her decision, Lee joins 2024 Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera on the comeback trail.

Former elite prodigy and NCAA sensation Katelyn Ohashi just made her return to the American and U.S. Classic competitions after 13 years away. At 29 years old and having undergone breast augmentation surgery in 2025, many suspect that Simone Biles is done with competitive gymnastics.

However, Biles says she remains undecided on a run at her fourth-straight Olympic team. For now, fans hold their breath and wish her well.

Simone Biles is recovering from another medical procedure just weeks after revealing she suffered what she described as a life-threatening health emergency.

The Olympic gymnastics star shared a photo on Instagram July 23 showing herself in medical scrubs alongside husband Jonathan Owens, revealing that the Indianapolis Colts safety spent part of his 31st birthday taking her to an appointment.

“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote, adding several heart emojis.

Biles, 29, did not disclose what procedure she underwent and has yet to explain the health scare she revealed last month.

The seven-time Olympic gold medalist shocked fans in June when she shared a photo from a hospital bed and said she had experienced one of the scariest moments of her life.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote on Instagram Stories at the time. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

She said the situation was made even more difficult because Owens was away at training camp with the Colts. Biles later told followers she had been resting in bed while recovering and promised she would eventually share more about what happened.

Biles says she’s still not ready to discuss medical emergency

A week later, after posting a video from a trip to Belize, Biles responded to a fan who asked about her “near death experience.

“Not ready to talk about it just yet ❤️‍🩹,” she replied.

Biles has since been out and about, traveling, attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding and even served as one of the presenters at the annual ESPYs in New York City on Wednesday, July 15. But she continues to draw criticism from social media users.

After one commenter wrote, “Almost died but look at these traveling selfies…,” Biles pushed back.

“Ugh these comments made me sad,” she wrote. “A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here.”

She added that the experience had changed her perspective, and she urged critics to show “a little more grace.”

Biles said she was spending the week recovering in bed and told followers she would explain the medical emergency “sooner or later.” She also thanked those who had checked on her, later sharing a photo cuddled up with her two dogs and writing, “i’ll be here.

Simone Biles revealed she was recently mistaken for two different Black athletes multiple times in a single day.

In a now-deleted July 12 Instagram Stories post, the Olympian offered up a few more details about her experience, saying that she’d been misidentified as fellow Olympic athletes Dominique Dawes, a retired artistic gymnast, and track star Sha’Carri Richardson.

Sha'Carri Richardson

“It’s not even 6am and I’ve already gotten called Dominique Dawes 2x and Sha’Carri once,” she wrote for the post’s caption, as reported by People and Us Weekly.

The 29-year-old appeared to have taken the confusion in stride, adding a couple of laughing emojis to the end of her caption. A photograph that appears to have been taken from a balcony at sunrise served as the backdrop for Biles’ post.

Biles has been publicly misidentified before. She called out the Wall Street Journal in an October 2023 X post after the newspaper published an article about her featuring a photo of Shilese Jones, another prominent Black gymnast.!

“This picture isn’t even me…….. try again,” Biles wrote in response to the publication’s original X post, which has since been deleted. The outlet said it corrected the photo in the story and on social media.

Simone Biles: ‘I didn’t really notice racism until 2013’

Simone Biles

In previous conversations, Biles has opened up about her first encounters with racism in her sport.

“I didn’t really experience it whenever I was younger, obviously, I went to a predominantly white school. But I didn’t really notice racism until 2013,” Biles told then-“Today” co-anchor Hoda Kotb in 2020. “I was on a world scene, and what made the news was another gymnast saying that if we painted our skin black, maybe we would all win because I had beaten her out of the beam medal, and she got upset.”

Biles made history when she competed at the 2013 World Championships, becoming the first Black woman to win the all-around title. Italian gymnast Carlotta Ferlito made the comment referenced by Biles after failing to medal at the event.

Just over a year ago, Simone Biles came at Riley Gaines.

In now-infamous X posts, Biles called out Gaines for speaking up about a transgender pitcher who won a Minnesota girls’ softball championship, and mocked Gaines’ body saying “bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.” It ignited the biggest pop culture flashpoint in the “Save Women’s Sports” movement.

Now just over a year later, Gaines has a close ally in Biles’ former US Olympic gymnastics team teammate, MyKayla Skinner. Gaines and Skinner celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold state laws that protect women’s sports on Tuesday, and sent a message to Biles one year after the infamous social media feud.

“Just being able to try to find my voice and how I could use my voice after Simone had come out against Riley, it had really affected me,” Skinner said. “I have a little daughter, and we are hoping to put her in sports soon, and I just really want her to have everything that I got to have, all the opportunities.”

Skinner, who won an Olympic silver medal in vault at the Tokyo Games, said her own athletic career shaped her view of the issue.

“I’ve broken records, I’ve been an Olympian, I was a college athlete, and I want her to have the opportunities that I had,” Skinner said of her daughter. “And so this, for me, was a way that I felt like this is the time for me to come up and stand for what I believe in, stand with Riley, and to join in on this fight.”

Skinner then turned her attention directly to Biles.

“I think it would just be really cool to see Simone stand with us,” Skinner said. “She’s one of the best athletes in the world.”

Skinner said she wants to see more elite female athletes join Gaines, XX-XY Athletics founder Jennifer Sey and others in the movement.

“To be able to see her as my teammate, as an Olympian, as an amazing athlete that she is, to be able to stand with us and fight alongside Riley and everyone else on this road,” Skinner said. “I would just love, love to see my teams, especially Simone, in step with us.”

Gaines, a former University of Kentucky swimmer who became one of the most prominent advocates against transgender athletes in women’s sports after tying transgender swimmer Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA championships, previously called on Biles to stand with her on the issue in a March interview with Fox News Digital, months before Biles’ social media attack.

Gaines renewed her call to Biles, alongside Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, to stand on her side, after Tuesday’s SCOTUS ruling.

“Let this be a clarion call, not just to Simone, but to every, I think especially elite female athlete, professional female athlete, the likes of Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, Serena Williams, to link arms,” Gaines said.

Gaines added that the ruling made her feel “absolutely vindicated.”

“I feel, of course, excited, I feel optimistic about the future,” Gaines said. “But I think the feeling that I feel the most of is vindicated.

“Being a mom, I look at her and I think of the country and the world that I want her to inherit,” Gaines said of her daughter. “It’s a more fair, more safe, more prosperous, more opportunistic world, country.”

“Let it be known that you also think young girls are worthy of calling themselves champions one day,” Gaines added.

Biles’ feud with Gaines began June 6, 2025, after Gaines drew attention to a biologically male transgender softball pitcher who helped a Minnesota girls’ team win a state championship. Biles called Gaines “truly sick,” a “straight up sore loser” and a “bully,” and later suggested Gaines was the “same size” as a male, according to Fox News Digital. Biles later deleted the posts and apologized.

The feud also became a turning point for Skinner.

Skinner had already endured her own public clash with Biles after she posted a video about the 2024 U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team and made comments about the team’s “talent and depth.” Biles responded at the time with the post, “Not everyone needs a mic and a platform,” and Skinner later apologized while saying her remarks were misinterpreted. Skinner told Fox News Digital last year that the backlash included death threats and messages saying she “shouldn’t be a mom.”

Skinner later joined XX-XY Athletics as an ambassador in the brand’s “Gold Medal Campaign,” aligning herself with Gaines, Sey, Olympic swimmer Nancy Hogshead and other prominent activists in the “Save Women’s Sports” space.

When asked whether she believes Biles truly meant what she said to Gaines last year, Skinner did not hesitate.

“100% yes,” Skinner said. “I’ve known Simone since I was 13 years old, and we’ve had our moments. There’s times where she has belittled me as an athlete, as a person, bullied. And so this wasn’t a shock to me when she came out against Riley.”

Skinner said she believes Biles “stands firm” in her position, but hopes that can change.

“Being at this level and being a mom, we look up to these amazing athletes,” Skinner said. “I really think that she’s not on this side with us, and I really would love to see her come forward and maybe change her mind.”

Gaines agreed that Biles’ initial comments reflected her real views, while suggesting the apology that followed felt more like public-relations cleanup.

“You could even notice the very obvious tone switch between the initial tweet or two and the very ChatGPT-coded apology,” Gaines said.

Gaines said she accepted Biles’ apology and would still be willing to “link arms” with the Olympic gymnastics legend.

“That’s kind of like water off the duck’s back to me,” Gaines said.

But Gaines said she believes the backlash Biles faced after her posts may have revealed a cultural shift on the issue.

“I think it took that for her to realize, ‘Oh dang, I think I was living in my own little bubble here,’” Gaines said. “Maybe the people I surrounded myself with think this, but majority of Americans don’t.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling does not force every state or school to adopt bans on transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports. The court said the cases did not present the separate question of whether schools may allow biological males who identify as female to compete on girls’ and women’s teams.

But for Gaines and Skinner, Tuesday’s decision marked a defining legal victory — and another chance to pressure some of the biggest names in women’s sports to pick a side.

Simone Biles shared a photo from hospital and described the incident as one of the scariest experiences of her life.

Olympic gymnastics icon Simone Biles has revealed that she was recently hospitalized after a frightening health emergency. The 29-year-old American athlete disclosed the ordeal in an Instagram post on June 6 and said that the health scare nearly cost her life.

The Olympian posted on her Instagram Stories on Saturday, saying, “I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age.”

Biles shared a photograph of her wrist wearing multiple hospital bracelets and wrote, “Almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

What happened to Simone Biles?

The gymnast added that the episode was among the most terrifying moments she has ever experienced.

Biles continued inthe Instagram story, “This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Johnathan was in Indy for practices,” referring to her husband, Jonathan Owens, who was at the Indianapolis Colts’ NFL preseason practice.

She said she spent much of the week resting in bed after returning home from the hospital. Biles further thanked friends and family members who checked on her, visited her and sent flowers while she recovered. She indicated that she plans to explain more about what happened at a later date but has chosen not to disclose further details for now.

As she continues to heal from her near-death experience, the Olympic athlete posted two pictures of flower bouquets in glass containers on a counter.

She later also posted another image from home showing herself resting in bed with her dogs nearby, suggesting that her condition has stabilized. She wrote, “I’ll be here.”

Rebeca Andrade, one of the most decorated gymnasts of her generation and a long-time rival of Simone Biles on the international stage, has drawn global attention after sharing a personal Instagram post that appeared to confirm a new relationship.

The Brazilian star, who continues to add to her already historic medal collection, posted a photo featuring a romantic moment with her girlfriend, prompting widespread reaction from fans online.

The image, shared to Andrade’s Instagram stories, showed her girlfriend kissing her on the cheek in a warm and affectionate moment.

The post quickly circulated across social media platforms, with fans and sports communities celebrating what many saw as a powerful and uplifting personal milestone for the Olympic champion.

A caption written in Portuguese accompanied the image, which read: “Thank you for supporting me and being here at this important moment in my life! I love you.”

Fans react as Andrade’s post goes viral after latest gold medal success

The timing of the post added even more attention, coming shortly after Andrade’s continued success on the international gymnastics stage, where she has remained one of the sport’s most dominant and consistent performers.

Rebeca Andrade is already widely recognized as one of the greatest gymnasts in history. She has earned six Olympic medals for Brazil, making her the most decorated Brazilian Olympian across all sports.

Her achievements also include nine World Championship medals, as well as Olympic gold in vault at the Tokyo 2020 Games and floor exercise at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

She has also claimed World titles in the all-around (2022) and vault (2021, 2023), solidifying her legacy as a multi-event powerhouse.

Beyond her athletic dominance, Andrade’s personal announcement was met with overwhelming positivity from fans, particularly within gymnastics communities online.

On platforms such as Reddit’s r/gymnastics, users shared emotional and celebratory responses to the news.

One fan wrote: “I just shrieked ‘REBECA ANDRADE GAY?!’” while another commented, “What a recruit for Team 🌈’s WAG (Women’s Artistic Gymnastics) team! She’s already one of the ultimate inspirations in the sport, but now she’s even more of an inspiration!”

Another simply added: “OUR TEAM STAYS WINNING!”

A growing moment for LGBTQ+ representation in gymnastics

Fans also drew comparisons to other athletes in the sport who have come out publicly in recent years, including Olympic gymnast Jade Carey, who previously shared her relationship with Aimee Sinacola.

The visibility of elite gymnasts embracing their identities has been widely praised as an important step forward for representation in a traditionally high-pressure sport environment.

One fan noted: “Yay, with her and Jade, I love that we’re seeing more and more gymnasts being openly out with their partners during their careers! Anyways, another win for us LGBT gym fans.”

Another added: “QUEEN I love her even more! Also this means that the last two WAG Olympic floor champions have both been LGBTQ+, slay representation!”

As Andrade continues her elite career, her influence now extends beyond competition results.

Already a symbol of resilience after overcoming multiple injuries earlier in her career, she is now also being celebrated for authenticity and openness in her personal life.

With her latest viral post and continued dominance in gymnastics, Rebeca Andrade remains not only a rival to Simone Biles on the competition floor, but also one of the most influential athletes in modern Olympic sport.

The world’s most decorated gymnast said on Instagram that she had “one of, if not the scariest experience of my life.”

The world’s most decorated gymnast said on Instagram Stories that she had endured an unexpected situation, and she thanked well-wishers.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles, 29, said on the social media platform. “but almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”

The athlete did not share what happened.

Representatives for Biles did not immediately respond to requests for comment late Saturday.

Biles, winner of 41 Olympics and world-competition medals, posted a photo of a trio of wristbands of the type issued to patients at hospitals. She also sent love to members of her “close circle” who she said sent flowers, visited and checked in, and she posted images of bouquets.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life,” Biles said, adding that she has been resting in bed this week.

Biles suggested the timing didn’t help: Husband Jonathan Owens, a safety for the NFL’s Colts, was in Indianapolis for practice sessions, she said.

“I’ll explain sooner or later,” Biles said of the scare.

In a separate post, she included a photo of two dogs on a bed with the text “i’ll be here” and a screenshot of a heart-rate monitor.

Biles and Owens have a home in Spring, Texas, a city about 25 miles north of downtown Houston, according to Realtor.com.

The couple had attended a St. Louis Cardinals game on May 29, and Owens threw out the first pitch. She posted photos from the game on Instagram on Friday.

Simone Biles found time to respond to Instagram users with very few followers this week, after the users commented mocking the gymnast for posting vacation photos days after revealing an apparent near-death experience.

The users commented on one of Biles’ recent posts showing photos of the gymnast on vacation, just two weeks after Biles revealed she had a near-death experience in a post where she wrote she “almost died.” Biles has not revealed specifics about the incident.

“Almost died but look at these traveling selfies,” one user, with just over 2,200 followers, wrote on Tuesday.

Biles responded to the comment on Thursday.

“Ugh, these comments make me sad. A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here. I hope you understand that life-changing experiences can shift your perspective and that you’re able to extend a little more grace to other moving forward,” Biles wrote.

Another user, with fewer than 200 followers, wrote, “almost died but on vacation drinking?”

Biles responded to that comment too, writing, “I don’t owe you anything, but have you heard of non-alcoholic drinks?”

OLYMPIAN SIMONE BILES FACES FIERCE BACKLASH AFTER CLASH WITH RILEY GAINES OVER TRANS ATHLETES DEBATE

Another user, also with fewer than 200 followers, wrote, “You look good for someone who almost died.”

Biles responded to that comment as well, writing, “Two weeks bedrest.”

On her Instagram story on June 6, Biles shared vague details about the near-death experience, without recounting any specifics, with the background just being a photo of her hand.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card this week,” Biles wrote.

“This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices. I’ve been in bed resting this week. I’ll explain sooner or later, but [shoutout] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.”

Biles has declined to reveal specifics about what happened.

“Not ready to talk about it just yet,” she wrote in a reply to a comment earlier this week.

Biles is married to Jonathan Owens, who is a safety for the Indianapolis Colts. The couple has been married since 2023, though Owens’ NFL career has occasionally forced them to spend time apart. Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018, he has played for five different teams.

The two met while Owens was with the Houston Texans in 2019. Biles lives in Texas, where the couple has built a massive home together. Since his time in Houston, Owens has also played for the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and now the Colts.

Back in November, Biles revealed that she had recently undergone three plastic surgeries.

“I’ve had three plastic surgeries and two of them you would never be able to tell,” she said in a TikTok video that month.

Well, would you look at that. It’s Tuesday again. As I write this, I’m kicked back at BNA — one of the finest airports in the country — waiting to board my flight to… New York City.

A bumpkin like you in NYC, you say? You bet your biscuits, kiddos.

New York. The Big Apple. The City That Never Sleeps. The place where Carrie Bradshaw supported her lavish Manhattan lifestyle and extensive designer shoe collection simply by writing exactly one column per week. Good gig if you can get it.

Anyway, I’m headed to Fox HQ.

That’s right, I’ve been summoned to the Mothership. I’ll be staying in a hotel near Times Square.

Surely it’ll be chill. Not too busy. Nothing going on. Right

Lordy.

I’m not totally uncultured. I’ve been to NYC a handful of times — most recently in December 2015 when I was the social media manager for the three-win Tennessee Titans. We were in town to play the Jets. As you can imagine, the football portion of that trip was positively dreadful. But I ate some banger Italian food and took my picture in front of the big Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, so not all was lost.

Anyway, y’all ready for some Nightcaps?

Make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright and locked position, grab your TSA-compliant ranch dressing packets, and let’s roll.

The Tartan Army is taking its talents to South Beach

Yes, that’s a real thing. This, ladies and gents, is what we call opportunity marketing.

When I was in grad school, I had a very smart instructor named Tim McGuire. He had this belief that instead of complaining about our problems, we should see them as opportunities — a chance to capitalize on a need. If we had that problem, other people did, too. So why not find a way to solve it and make money in the process?

Whenever he’d hear me or one of my early-20-something-year-old colleagues griping about an inconvenience we faced, he’d happily chirp, “Business idea!”

Unfortunately, I went to journalism school, so the only thing I’m qualified to do when faced with a problem is to b—- about it in my Tuesday column. But Tim would be so proud of whichever Kraft employee saw all these Europeans falling in love with Ranch dressing and designed them a travel kit.

I digress. What I really want to talk about are the Scots headed to Miami.

After drinking Boston bars out of all their booze — a feat previously believed to be impossible — the Tartan Army has now descended upon MIA

I can’t wait until all the men in kilts start taking selfies and drinking Aperol spritzes with the plastic, face-full-of-filler ladies of Miami. A beautiful and harmonious union.

When they say America is a melting pot, that’s what they mean.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are getting ready for the season

And that means fluffing their pompoms.

And by “fluff,” I don’t mean giving them a quick shake before heading onto the field. I mean sitting down and individually separating strands, tying knots, pulling streamers apart and performing what appears to be several hours of arts and crafts.

One cheerleader named Julissa posted a tutorial, and I was exhausted just watching it.

Look, I understand that being a Cowboys cheerleader requires attention to detail. The uniforms are immaculate. The hair is flawless. The makeup has to be perfect. America’s Sweethearts don’t just roll out of bed looking game-day ready.

But at some point, some equipment manager in the Cowboys organization had to look at a box of flattened pompoms and think, “You know whose problem this should be? The cheerleaders.”

Then again, the Cowboys cheerleaders did just get a 400% pay raise. Some veteran members are reportedly earning up to $150,000 a year now. Which is way better than the rest of the league’s cheerleaders, who are getting paid in Kohl’s Cash and packs of Skittles.

I’ll allow it for the DCC. But if I find out the Raiderettes were painstakingly fluffing their own pompoms while Geno Smith was out there throwing 17 interceptions and taking 55 sacks, I’m calling the police.

Simone Biles isn’t taking your nonsense

A couple of weeks ago, the world’s most decorated gymnast suffered a cryptic medical emergency. What that diagnosis was we do not know. We may never know.

And frankly, it’s none of our business. You know, HIPAA and all.

This past week, Simone hit Belize with her husband, Jonathan Owens. There, she posted a few bikini snaps.

“Looks like you’re having fun, Simone. Good to see you alive and well” …is what a normal human being would say after her medical scare.

But, instead, some butthole on Instagram decided she hadn’t spent enough time sitting around feeling sorry for herself.

“Almost died,” this person wrote, “but look at these traveling selfies…. 😂😂😂”

Simone wasn’t having it.

“ugh these comments make me sad,” she wrote. “a little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal & appreciate being here. I hope you understand that life changing experiences can shift your perspective. & that you’re able to extend a little more grace to others moving forward 😘 have a nice day!”

Simone Biles is speaking out.

The Olympian has responded to some people who are criticizing her for taking a vacation to Belize with her husband, Jonathan Owens, a little more than one week after she suffered a “serious medical emergency” that nearly killed her.

Biles received comments on a recent Instagram post questioning why she was traveling and sharing selfies so soon after the health scare. While she has not yet shared details about what happened, Biles did reply directly to several of the comments on her post.

“Almost died but look at these traveling selfies,” one fan wrote, adding three crying with laughter emoji.

“Ugh these comments make me sad. a little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal & appreciate being here,” Biles replied. “I hope you understand that life changing experiences can shift your perspective. & that you’re able to extend a little more grace to others moving forward. Have a nice day!”

“Almost died but on vacation drinking??” someone else questioned.

“I don’t owe you anything but have you ever heard of non alcoholic drinks,” Biles responded.
